J.C.'s journey: The world of reading and friendships
"My son was diagnosed with a mild language disorder at age 5+ and also displayed high risk factors for a Specific Learning Disorder (dyslexia). Prior to that, he was very withdrawn and despondent in school as he struggled with his language lessons. He also stopped speaking to his teachers and classmates and cried daily about school.
Fast forward four years, my son is now confident and happy, with many friends and goes to school daily. Much progress has been made with his literacy and whilst he still requires daily support in school, he is resilient and has a very positive approach and can-do spirit to his work.
Vivian has been a very big part of this journey, and I will wholeheartedly attribute a majority of my son’s turnaround to her. We have worked with many therapists and edu-psychologists throughout our journey, all experienced and good, however Vivian stands out for her dedication to the holistic and emotional well-being of her students and giving each of them truly individualised plans and therapy.
Thus, Vivian was able to engage with my son fully and effectively very quickly, as she was able to create literacy materials and lessons that were well suited to his personality and interests. She also understood his trigger points and was able to teach him discipline and good habits. Very crucially for us, she went above and beyond literacy therapy and helped my son with significant emotional work, to achieve the breakthrough in his social skills and regaining his confidence, which really helps to underpin any successful academic learning. I would also like to add that behind each of her lesson plans, I saw great rigour and an impressive range of scientific support.
It’s been four years that my son has been under her care. We have progressed from weekly, to twice weekly, down to weekly and eventually holiday lessons only with Vivian. It is a testament to her well rounded skills and care for my son that he is able to progress and establish growing independence and agency in his academic learning, which is really what any parent could hope for."
